Reporters swoon at Obama:
John Harris, editor of Politico.com, has said he was forced to put certain reporters sent to cover Mr. Obama through a rehab program after they returned to the office. Back in January, NBC News anchor Brian Williams noted that Lee Cowan, the reporter NBC had sent to cover Mr. Obama, had told him that “it is hard to stay objective covering this guy.”
Somehow, however:
Some media reevaluations of Mr. Obama are now taking place, fueled in part by revelations such as the Rev. Jeremiah Wright that are hard to ignore. But the simple truth is that Mr. Obama has had a free media ride for so long that he effectively wrapped up the Democratic nomination before any of his political weaknesses were generally known.
John Fund delivering this, for the excellent Wall St. Journal Political Diary.
Obama is still receiving a free media ride. Although the mainstream media did cover the Rev. Wright association, it did so only because it was forced to do so after the chatter about Rev. Wright by conservative talk radio could no longer be ignored. The mainstream media, having dutifully covered the Wright situation, now wants to move on . Obama is excused for his association with Rev. Wright over the past 20 years. The media has closed the door on the Obama-Wright controversy. In the eyes of the media, ones choice of friends does not tell any thing about the character of a man. Additionally, character seems not to matter for the mainstream media.
Presently there is a cover up going on with the Chicago Tribune. The paper is covering for Obama’s terrorist friends — Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn by not exposing information that would be damaging to Obama as he seeks to wrap up the Democratic presidental nomination. In light of what the Chicago Tribune is doing, it is evident that Obama will continue to receive shallow scrutiny by the press.
