Driving us nuts

This is a typically excellent piece on congressional skullduggery from Investor’s Business Daily, with the best head I’ve seen in a while:

Flying Miss Nancy

By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Wednesday, August 05, 2009 4:20 PM PT

Washington: The Democrat-controlled House wants to buy nearly $200 million worth of private jets so lawmakers and a few high-level bureaucrats can travel in style. We truly have an imperial Congress.

As radio man Mark Levin said last night, if you’re looking for a missing birth certificate, look for Pelosi’s.  She may be an alien.  He let it go at that, but I thought right away of space alien.  Her eyes go pop in the night, right?

Those airplanes, by the way?

The taxpayer money the House plans to spend is to be used to buy three Gulfstream G550s at roughly $65 million each. These are long-range business jets with large, palatial interiors and three temperature zones. Company literature says the “impeccably equipped cabin” of a G550 offers “best-in-class comforts” and can be configured “with up to four living areas.”

They would pretend they are CEOs.

Members of congress blasted the CEOs of the nation’s big 3 automakers for their use of luxury jets several months ago.

But . . .  (see above)

  1. My country club brother is among dozens in town here who are part of this amazing legion of Pelosi haters….I admit I haven’ done my research, but my intuition tells me there’s something about her persona (as well as just her policies) which annoy the hell out of conservatives…I think about all those years I taught US history in which the most passionate opponents in government still managed to respect each other’s personhood…long gone on both sides of the ailes

  4. I also read the Investor’s Business Daily article this past Wednesday about “Flying Miss Nancy” and responded yesterday with this letter to Chicago area newspapers;

    Dear Voice of the People: Royal treatment for Queen Nancy

    Once again the Democratic House has displayed its arrogance and disregard for taxpayer’s money. The House recently announced that it wants to buy nearly $200 million worth (or three Gulfstream 550 jets valued at $65 million each), and then have one of them sent to the Air Force’s 201st Airlift Squadron which shuttles members of Congress. These jets have impeccably equipped cabins and can be configured with up to four living areas.

    House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has long been demanding personal VIP jet service to visit her constituents in San Francisco. Over the past year congressmen have racked up 3,000 hours of domestic and overseas travel with private government jets taking them on their fact-finding junkets, some of which were highly questionable.

    Why do lawmakers feel it beneath their dignity to travel with the masses on commercial jets? Is it because many legislators view themselves as kin to royalty?

    Flying commercial is ten times less expensive than using military transport. It costs taxpayers $5,700 an hour when legislators employ private military jets.

    What hypocrisy when last year Congress viciously attacked CEOs of the Big Three automakers for using private jets when they traveled to Washington, D.C. to testify!
