The shoes don’t always make the man

A new pair of “nice Italian leather business casuals” does not help our plucky Intern Architect this time at Zoning, where no good plan goes unchanged.

  1. I really miss the days of The Magnificent Mayor — was his name Daley ? Did he ever go to jail ??

I remember him from my Navy days at Great Lakes and Navy Pier. There was a USO in the Congress Hotel, right there on Micbigan Avenue. I really LOVED Chicago, which I first visited in 1933, to see the World’s Fair — I still remember the Trylon and The Perisphere. What a thrill for AN EIGHT YEAR OLD KID.iiii FROM A LITTLE MICHIGAN VILLAGE, JUST AROUND THE LAKE. But I was a Tigers’ fan — Rudy York, Mickey Cochran and Hank Greenberg were my heroes — and how abpout Goose Gosling. The Tigers lost to the Cubs in ’34 but beat the Cardinals (including the Dean brothers,) in ’35.

We came to Chicago again — via train — for the All-Star Game — I can’t remember the year, but I know that Ted Williams won it for the American League when he homered in the Ninth Inning — off a Cubs’ pitcher named Guy Bush.

Hey Jim !!: I know that you’re too young to remember all of this old history, but it’s fun for me to recall those Golden Days. My later visits to Chicago were for more serious busienss — WW II and beginning service in the Navy.

Happy recollections from Dick Cutler in Ann Arbor
