If the Sacred Liturgy is the “summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed” (SC [Vatican 2 on liturgy], 10), the handling of the Body of Christ by the non-ordained is the pit from which all and every single liturgical abuse ontologically flows.
Because if God present in the Most Holy Sacrament is treated as “crumbs” and “dust”, then reality vanishes and all that remains, in appearance, are empty and ridiculous symbolisms – and no wonder people do not respect these, change them at will, and expect them to adapt to one’s own preferences.
Priest used to hold fingers this way, once they had touched the host.
It’s part of the desacralization process.
Bring back the rail, please!

Found rails at two Chi-area churches: St. Mary of Angels on N. Side of city and St. John Vianney in W. Suburban Northlake. FYI.
