Robert Cooley, Chicago hero, Eddie Burke, crusader vs. energy drinks

Cooley wore a wire when he did not have to, became a man without a city, but who now praises him? (HT essential-reading Steve Bartin)

Read his story here and here.

The first is David Jackson’s Chi Trib story,

`A death wish’ — Because of an ex-corrupt attorney with a near-photographic memory, we live in a different city today. But his life, he says, ‘ is over.’

The second is Cooley’s book, When Corruption Was King: How I Helped the Mob Rule Chicago, Then Brought the Outfit Down [Paperback] Robert Cooley (Author), Hillel Levin (Contributor)

Very important and readable (gripping) book.

Full of Ald. Ed Burke, by the way, who sat at the mob chief’s table in Counselors Row regularly in those days.

Ed has big fish to fry these days — see Sun-Times, “Ald. Ed Burke wants to ban high-caffeine energy drinks,” which shows Ed has your interests at heart and along the way would like to limit your choices so you stay away from what might hurt you. What a guy.
