Why? Because, according to Rod Dreher, writing in The Weekly Standard (Sept. 11), certain black parents protested that the book contains characters who use the words nigger and pickaninny.

It’s dangerous; so provide a narrative and require it. Columbus discovered America, as once taught. OK, new narrative: he didn’t. Etc. Whatever. What we need is a narrative.
