Prayers for Fr. Corapi

More on Father Corapi, from Wm. Oddie at Catholic Herald:

We should pray for all those clergy falsely accused of sexual abuse: There are almost certainly far more of them than most of us realise.

The accused

  1. The “guilty until proven innocent” approach is a self-inflicted wound, a direct consequence of the Church’s long practice of sweeping dirt under the rug. Now the Church cannot risk givign the accused a benefit of doubt, because that would too much resemble the bad old way of doing things.

Like a diabetic who nips off fingers and toes to prevent a fatal infection, the Church now sacrifices individual clerics for the protection of the organization – or so it believes. An over-reaction, of course. But having squandered the trust and good will of the people, bishops see little choice.

    1. The old rock and hard place syndrome. A third alternative would be to view the data dispassionately and take it from there. Don’t laugh; now and then it happens.
