Trump signs free speech executive order urged by TPUSA’s Charlie Kirk – Business Insider

Beware free speech, everyone, here comes the funder.

The order calls for federal funding for research to be withheld from universities if they do not agree to uphold the First Amendment, but the details of how it will be implemented and enforced are hazy.

Turning Point USA is the group, urging this very controversial idea, that you shouldn’t punch out a speaker saying things you don’t like.

That’s not asking a lot from universities, right?

The hazy part is inevitable, it seems, though Pelosi was willing to pass a bill to see what’s inside it.

Charter for Catholic action and lay responsibilities to speak up as in the Code of Canon Law

Not just freedom to do so, which of course is presumed:

Can. 212 §1. Conscious of their own responsibility, the Christian
faithful are bound to follow with Christian obedience those things
which the sacred pastors, inasmuch as they represent Christ, declare
as teachers of the faith or establish as rulers of the Church.

Yes. Go on . . .

§2. The Christian faithful are free to make known to the pastors of
the Church their needs, especially spiritual ones, and their desires.

Yes, the freedom part . . .

§3. According to the knowledge, competence, and prestige which they
possess, they have the right and even at times the duty to manifest to
the sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good
of the Church and to make their opinion known to the rest of the
Christian faithful,
without prejudice to the integrity of faith and
morals, with reverence toward their pastors, and attentive to common
advantage and the dignity of persons.

Hence the dozens of Catholic blogs that question church leaders . . .

Fr Hunwicke’s advice on reading Newman in this time of “hyper. . . ” papalism

From the inimitable Fr. H, a bit of reading advice with dig at popes with enlarged notions of themselves and clear enough reference to him whom he refers to (respectfully enough) as “PF”:

It appears that Blessed John Henry Newman will be canonised this year. It would hardly be elegant for anybody to be leaned on for subscribing to his views, or, indeed, to the example he set by how he referred to Pio Nono and Cardinal Manning and the other ultrasuperhyperueberpapalist extremists of his own time. I have found the 1870 volume of his letters to be endless fun!

Pregnant to bursting, that small item.

Report shines light on 395 Catholic priests, deacons accused of sex misconduct | Chicago Sun-Times

Minnesota-based Jeff Anderson, longtime pursuer of abuser priests, lists priests accused, whether accusations have been substantiated or not.

He explains:

Anderson said his priority was protecting the alleged victims of abuse, not the church.

“It’s not sullying reputations, it’s protecting kids. And we’re going to err on the side of their privacy and the protection of the kids instead of the priests,” Anderson said.

But it is sullying reputations as well as protecting kids.

And his admission of willingness to err in the matter is unfortunately a signal to withhold willingness to take him seriously.

The more’s the pity, this being a very serious matter.

Antifa And MSM Openly Conspire To Crush Debate—Time for GOP To Confront The Emerging Totalitarian Left

There they go again:

It’s not that Main Stream Media journalists support Antifa—MSM journalists ARE Antifa. The alliance between the System’s street enforcers and its Narrative enforcers has become clearer than ever in recent weeks as MSM operatives denounce a new bill—sponsored by four Republican white males—that would impose harsh Federal penalties on the use of masks while undertaking political terrorism. [“Unmasking
Antifa” Act Introduced In Congress: 15 Year Sentence For
Masked Mayhem
, ZeroHedge, July 10, 2018]

With few exceptions, every story about the proposed bill adoringly quotes Antifa organizers and favorably describes their activities. For example:

Biden cheated

Blast from the past.

According to the New York Times, the Syracuse faculty voted to give Biden an “F” grade after he ”used five pages from a published law review article [Comment, Tortious Act as a Basis for Jurisdiction in
products Liability Cases
, 33 Fordham L. Rev. 671 (1965)] without quotation or attribution” in his 15-page paper for his legal research and writing course.

Biden was permitted to re-take the course the following year, and he “received a grade of 80 in the course, which, he joked today, prevented him from falling even further in his class rank. Mr. Biden, who graduated from the law school in 1968, was 76th in a class of 85.”

So when Trump calls him “low I-Q,” he probably is remembering that story. (Although the cheating is more a question of low-ethical-sensitivity, to put it in kindest words available).

Ald. Pat O’Connor Slams Challenger Andre Vasquez Over Misogynistic, Homophobic Rap Lyrics

Would you like this man to be your alderman, a former “battle rapper,” yeah!

The lyrics featured on the website include: “Holdin’ mics with a slight buzz. Beatin’ bitches like Ike does” and “Grab you by the clavicle and drag your ass across the ground. Leave you bound and gagged in a bar surrounded by f*gs. Looking like a clown that found a gown and dressed in drag.”

In a video posted to YouTube, rapper Vasquez tells his female battle rap opponent: “I’m going to smack you til your dizzy, give you a tilt-a-whirl. I want to battle a real MC not a little f*cking girl” and “Yo everybody she the right size so she can blow me.”

This be a Democratic Socialist candidate whose motto is “It’s our moment.” Yeah!
