Messianic pants on fire

It looks like the Big O. fooled us with his claim of being an infrequent attender at Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s jeremiads vs. U.S. and all things middle class:

President-elect Barack Obama said in 2004 – while he was a state legislator running for a U.S. Senate seat – that he attended services at Trinity United Church of Christ every week.

This is in contrast to what Obama, as a presidential candidate, said this year after controversial anti-American remarks by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright surfaced. Obama then told news outlets that he did not attend the church frequently and was not aware of Wright’s comments.

Sun-Times religion writer, now columnist posted the full interview at Belief.net, where she explains:

At 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2004, when I was the religion reporter (I am now its religion columnist) at the Chicago Sun-Times, I met then-State Sen. Barack Obama at Café Baci, a small coffee joint at 330 S. Michigan Avenue in Chicago, to interview him exclusively about his spirituality. Our conversation took place a few days after he’d clinched the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat that he eventually won. We spoke for more than an hour. He came alone. He answered everything I asked without notes or hesitation. The profile of Obama that grew from the interview at Cafe Baci became the first in a series in the Sun-Times called “The God Factor,” that eventually became my first book, The God Factor: Inside the Spiritual Lives of Public People (FSG, March 2006.) Because of the staggering interest in now President-Elect Obama’s faith and spiritual predilections, I thought it might be helpful to share that interivew, uncut and in its entirety, here.
–Cathleen Falsani

In the course of the interview, Falsani asked if he still attended Trinity Church.

OBAMA:
Yep. Every week. 11 oclock service.

Ever been there? Good service.

I actually wrote a book called Dreams from My Father, it’s kind of a meditation on race. There’s a whole chapter on the church in that, and my first visits to Trinity.

Which church he had to abandon, as we know.

Can’t win for losing

To go along with news that no higher percentage of voters voted this presidential election than four years ago, there’s this from Roeser about what the two obeisant Chi main dailies did while pushing the Messiah before and after his ascension:

“Advertising Age” has just come out with an exhilarating (for me) finding…that Barack Obama’s victory didn’t do a thing for sales on newsstands in Chicago-a well-deserved rebuke to the hustling editors of both “Sun-Times” and “Tribune” who sold much of their integrity to turn their papers into sales pamphlets and most of their columnists into flacks for the Democratic candidate-eschewing their once diverse stance.

There’s more more more . . .

The bold thing!

They (mostly) all booed when Michael Barone told a Hilton meeting room full of liberal Democrats, I mean academics, that mediums went after Sarah Palin because “she did not abort her Down syndrome baby.”

Later, he apologized, said he was joking.

But libs’ going ga-ga over Palin — not just mediums but your mine-run New York Times fan too — has to be explained as a cultural phenomenon.  And the culture is so pro-abortion that even if she were “pro-choice,” they would have been repelled by her decision not to abort this baby.

Thing is, she got in so many types’ faces with her self-assurance, good looks, and skill in communication that they had a visceral reaction.  How dare she?  That sort of thing.  The baby tore it, going so much against the grain of the basically eugenicist mentality of libs.

My guess is some of them think there oughta be a law against doing something like that.  They go wild at the sight of someone doing it proudly.

Later: From Reader D:

Did you see Sarah with Greta Van Susteren on FOX Mon-Tues this week?  She never had to parse her answers, never had to equivocate, and she multi-tasked during the interview segments in her kitchen. (She was making cheese dogs for dinner!)

Hearing O’Reilly and Rove discuss her lack of “gravitas,” I came to the conclusion that they have “gravitas” mixed up with “sophisticated phony.” That’s the brand we’re used to seeing nightly on TV.
That is what she AIN’T.  She talks conversation — not script.  I wanna move to Alaska.
Oh my, that’s the point.  She’s real.

Temperamentally unsuited?

Emanuel is a bad choice for White House chief of staff, being “neither idealist nor dreamer,” which would disqualify him, but carrying

inside him all the qualifications to be a real screw-up-because he is known for applying an iron fist…flying into rages…throwing around the “f” word four times in every sentence…in being vindictive and argumentative and not to suffer fools gladly.

So argues Tom Roeser.

Furthermore, as White House political director, “he offended enough people — in particular Hillary Clinton — that he was demoted and almost fired,” says Time Mag.

This latter is hardly a damning criticism, but from Obama’s point of view it could be.

Change he never believed in

John Kass is excellent today on the Emanuel pick.

But this by Dick Morris & Eileen McGann covers even more of the spectrum and is devastating about Obama’s con job about change becoming clearer by the minute.
What’s with Obama’s choice of old-time Clinton cronies and recycled Washington insiders to run the transition to his new politics of change?

Can’t the anti-Washington insiders President-elect find anyone who isn’t a Beltway has-been?

Etc.

The face of Freddie Mac

The newly named Obama White House enforcer is not only a case of business as usual in the Washington so often condemned by The Messiah in his recent campaign.

He is also one who “failed in [his] duty to follow up on matters brought to [his] attention” as a director of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) when it “misreported profits by billions of dollars in order to deceive investors between the years 2000 and 2002.”

Rahm E. as Freddie M.

“Rahmbo” he may be, but he apparently knows when not to make waves.

In addition, this just in:

A day after being elected president and acknowledging “the worst financial crisis in a century,” Barack Obama asked one of the biggest recipients of Wall Street campaign contributions to be his chief of staff.

Rep. Rahm Emanuel . . . was the top House recipient in the 2008 election cycle of contributions from hedge funds, private equity firms and the larger securities/investment industry . . . .

Since being elected to Congress in 2002, after working as an investment banker, Emanuel has received more money from individuals and PACs in the securities and investment business than any other industry.

Not to worry.  He believes in change.

Post-mortem 2

Some great thoughts, discovered while looking for something else:

* “This election was about one thing and one thing only,” says Ben Shapiro at CNS News, “Americans’ puerile need for unity through self-congratulatory, cathartic membership in a broad, transformative political movement.”

Not about Obama’s record: “He didn’t have one.” Or his views, “radical in the extreme.” or his associations: “Americans didn’t care about Wright, Ayers, or Khalidi.”  Not about McCain.

O. is the original feel-good president, perfect for a feel-good electorate — 52% of the whole.

* He said spread to wealth to Joe the Plumber, not to his campaign:

Indianapolis – Lines were long and tempers flared Wednesday not to vote but to get paid for canvassing for Barack Obama. Several hundred people are still waiting to get their pay for last-minute campaigning. Police were called to the Obama campaign office on North Meridian Street downtown to control the crowd.

The line was long and the crowd was angry at times.

“I want my money today! It’s my money. I want it right now!” yelled one former campaign worker.

Cheapskate.

* Finally (for now), a list of 2010 senatorial candidates, gotten by Dr. Helen of Nashville, who got it from Michael Barone’s Almanac of American Politics:

Democrats up for re-election

Bayh, Evan (D-IN)
Boxer, Barbara (D-CA)
Dodd, Christopher J. (D-CT)
Dorgan, Byron L. (D-ND)

Leahy, Patrick J. (D-VT)
Lincoln, Blanche L. (D-AR)
Mikulski, Barbara A. (D-MD)
Murray, Patty (D-WA)

Wyden, Ron (D-OR)

Republicans up for re-election

Bond, Christopher S. (R-MO)
Brownback, Sam (R-KS)
Bunning, Jim (R-KY)
Burr, Richard (R-NC)
Coburn, Tom (R-OK)
Crapo, Mike (R-ID)

Shelby, Richard C. (R-AL)
Specter, Arlen (R-PA)
Thune, John (R-SD)
Vitter, David (R-LA)
Voinovich, George V. (R-OH)

So what?  So get going to defeat or get elected these people.  Better to elect one good guy and defeat one bozo than to curse the darkness!

* Finally, finally, 70% of unmarried women voted for Obama!  He touched the right buttons, did he not?  Did he tap their need for unity through self-congratulatory, cathartic membership in a broad, transformative political movement?
