Out of Sweden comes more virus talk:

Sweden’s top expert on the coronavirus has warned that encouraging people to wear face masks is “very dangerous” because it gives a false sense of security but does not effectively stem the spread of the virus.

“It is very dangerous to believe face masks would change the game when it comes to COVID-19,” said Anders Tengell, who has overseen Sweden’s response to the pandemic while resisting any form of lockdown or mask mandate.

“Face masks can be a complement to other things when other things are safely in place,” Tengell added.

“But to start with having face masks and then think[ing] you can crowd your buses or your shopping malls — that’s definitely a mistake,” he further urged.

Tegnell has consistently spoken out against the use of masks, last month declaring that “With numbers diminishing very quickly in Sweden, we see no point in wearing a face mask in Sweden, not even on public transport.”

“The findings that have been produced through face masks are astonishingly weak, even though so many people around the world wear them,” Tengell has urged.

“I’m surprised that we don’t have more or better studies showing what effect masks actually have. Countries such as Spain and Belgium have made their populations wear masks but their infection numbers have still risen,” the epidemiologist also declared.

Sweden, which didn’t enforce any mandatory lockdown order, has seen its coronavirus cases and deaths slow to a trickle.

“That Sweden has come down to these levels is very promising,” Tegnell has said, adding “The curves are going down and the curves for the seriously ill are beginning to approach zero.”

As Newsweek acknowledged earlier this month, Sweden’s COVID-19 death rate is lower than those of Spain, the UK and Italy, countries which all imposed lockdowns.

Sweden’s GDP fall of 8.6 in Q2 2020 is also significantly less severe than the 12.1 average experienced in the Eurozone, leaving the Scandinavian country in “much better shape than the rest of Europe.”

Once more, yay Sweden.

People are talking about Joe Biden, who “can barely form sentences and recently snapped at a reporter for asking if he’d taken a cognitive test.”

And how has Biden responded to claims that he’s unfit to lead the country? By doing what all strong leaders do; sending his wife on national TV to defend him!

On Wednesday, Jill Biden appeared on NBC‘s “Today,” where she said that attacks on Joe’s cognitive ability are “ridiculous,” and that the question doesn’t belong in the public forum. She says Joe is “on the phone every single minute of the day,” and participating in Zoom calls, fundraisers and briefings.

“The president’s campaign this week released an ad just really attacking your husband’s cognitive ability, suggesting he’s lost a step or two in the last few years. Is that a fair attack? Is that something that should be debated as part of a campaign?” asked host Savannah Guthrie, to which Jill replied “No.”

“He doesn’t stop from 9:00 in the morning until 11:00 at night. So that, you know, that’s ridiculous.”

Nice try, Jill.

If a mayor can’t protect citizens and their property, what good is she?

Jolly fellows say they were caught on the bridge as it was raised, decided to stay and enjoy the view.

Look, the bridge tender could have shaken then off by lowering and raising it quickly up and down, making it even more exciting for them, maybe sending into the lovely Chicago River. Just a suggestion.

John Catanzara, president of the Fraternal Order of Police union, said he sees a wave of retirements leaving the city short of cops.

“I have no doubt that it’s going to continue, and I can clearly see a smaller spike within the upper ranks [of] lieutenants and above,” Catanzara said. “Who wants to stay in this environment? If you have the ability to leave, there is no incentive to stay anymore.

“The mayor doesn’t back us,” he said. “If you have the financial ability to do so, I don’t blame a single soul for leaving.”

Egad, she’s so dumb or ill-informed about a longtime refuted attack on Trump, that she repeats the ill-informed and ill-intended attack:

During her speech at the virtual Democratic National Convention, former first lady Michelle Obama called out and berated President Trump for the widely used accusation of separating children from their parents at the Southern Border and locking them in “cages.” . . .

[But] as reported by the AP, [she] . . . forgot to mention that they were constructed during Barack Obama’s presidency and used for the . . . same purpose. . . . to hold migrant children until U.S. Customs and Border Protection, along with Health and Human Services, could verify the children’s ‘parents.’ Many times, migrant children were discovered to be trafficked into the United States by criminals or persons with nefarious purposes.

If the Dem Committee is so stupid or venal on this obvious point, it will be an even harder slog for them in the weeks ahead than Republicans have hoped for.

America has witnessed months of civil unrest in cities around America following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Many of the protesters decry income and net worth “inequality.” But the most serious “inequality” is the unequal percentage of fathers in Black households, a phenomenon that has been encouraged by government policies that normalize and reward out-of-wedlock births.

In 1965, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, who was assistant secretary of Labor to President Lyndon B. Johnson, published “The Negro Family: The Case for National Action.” At that time, 25% of Blacks were born outside of wedlock, a number that this former adviser to President John F. Kennedy, future adviser to President Richard Nixon, future U.S. ambassador and future Democratic senator from New York said was catastrophic to the Black community.

Moynihan wrote:

“A community that allows a large number of young men to grow up in broken homes, dominated by women, never acquiring any stable relationship to male authority, never acquiring any rational expectations about the future — that community asks for and gets chaos. Crime, violence, unrest, unrestrained lashing out at the whole social structure — that is not only to be expected, it is very near to inevitable.”

Moynihan, according to his daughter, “was crucified by the left,” many of whom considered the book racist. Maura Moynihan said: “To this day members of the New York and DC elite insult and attack me at cocktail parties for being his daughter.” But since the publication of her father’s controversial report, the percent of Black children entering the world without a father in the home has almost tripled.
