Hot time in Galewood for Harmon and Lilly

Sept. 12 meeting at Galewood Community Church.

Harmon was optimistic at the start. The state, he said, is turning the corner.” There has been “no borrowing for last three years.” The pension problem is not as dire as some of the media say. Pensions are not the issue but growth of benefits.

This didn’t satisfy a retired teacher, who asked why her benefits were on the line.

They aren’t, Harmon said. “It’s that they don’t grow at the same rate.”

Nannies, caregivers, housekeepers at League of Women Voters meeting

Aug. 27 meeting, at Oak Park Library.

Oak Park Chronicles

Attended my first meeting last night, at the library. Was welcomed, encouraged to join up. Took a seat up front, 2nd row, looked about me and saw maybe 35 people, including one other man, he seated with a woman maybe his wife.

He once tried to make the treatment of terrorists by military personal a huge hoop-de-do –

“in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime–Pol Pot or others–that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners.” Durbin 2005

– and ended up with the handle of Durbin the Turban. Ouch.
