Yes, but I think he is overplaying the “ordinary guy” routine and in some way diminishing the majesty of his succession from Christ to Peter, etc. Pope Benedict was humble and kind without spending himself on many petty actions. Something about all this is distrubing to me and I can’t quite put my finger on what is troubling about his actions. Doesn’t he have some very important matters to handle at the Vatican and about setting the record straight on moral matters in a world gone mad?
Look what happened to the mystique of the British Royal Family once they became too well known, warts and all. When he wants to pronounce on matters of great importance, will he command the world’s attention or will he have frittered their interest away?
