Days before he died, Cardinal George reportedly told seminary rector Father Robert Barron that his curiosity was awakened, he was “so eager” to see God.

Wow. Like St. Therese of Lisieux, the Little Flower, who rejoiced when she coughed blood, knowing that the end was near.

    I’ve appreciated both your articles about Cardinal George, but especially this one. Thank you for this wonderful detail.

    What an astonishing presence he was for us ‘ungovernables’. A soldier of great faith who carried his wounds with such child-like simplicity.

    You were right. He did speak for the ages. We lift up our hearts.
