Only frequent church attendees avoided downward mental health trend in 2020

Sunday sermons, weekday observations

Good to know:

CNA Staff, Dec 11, 2020 / 12:09 am MT (CNA).- Americans who attend religious services weekly are the only demographic group appearing to show improved mental health in 2020, despite the stresses of the coronavirus pandemic and other events, says a new survey.

The survey otherwise shows significant self-reported mental health declines among those previously in excellent health.

In 2019, about 42% of those who reported attending religious services weekly told Gallup that their mental health was excellent. In 2020, 46% said the same, an increase of 4 percentage points. Only 35% of those who attend services nearly weekly or monthly reported excellent mental health, down 12 percentage points from last year. Among those who attend seldom or never, 29% reported excellent mental health, down 13 percentage points.

On the other hand, not surprising.

Melinda Gates Admits “We Hadn’t Really Thought Through the Economic Impacts” | Zero Hedge, More

She blames pandemic, not lockdowns.

She doesn’t say that outright [that the pandemic
torpedoed the economy, not the lockdown
] but, like many articles in the mainstream press over this year, she very carefully crafts her words to avoid the crucial subject of lockdowns as the primary cause of economic disaster.
It’s possible that she actually believes this virus is what tanked the world economy on its own but that is a completely unsustainable proposition.

Yes. She has journalistic company with that stupidity.

Melinda Gates Admits “We Hadn’t Really Thought Through the Economic Impacts” | Zero Hedge

Is it unkind to call her and her husband dingbats?

It’s a maddening statement, to be sure, as if “economics” is somehow a peripheral concern to the rest of human life and public health. The larger context of the interview reveals the statement to be even more confused. She is somehow under the impression that it is the pandemic and not the lockdowns that are the cause of the economic devastation that includes perhaps 30% of restaurants going under, among many other terrible effects.

Better (as ever) to go with Jesus on the cross: They know not what they do.

Lockdown Skepticism

Chicago Newspapers

Has you covered, all you people wondering what the heck is going on or strenuously objecting.

Examining the empirical basis for mandatory lockdown policies in both the physical and social sciences. We are concerned about the impact of COVID-19 lockdown / quarantines on our freedoms, human rights, physical and mental health, and economy. We are skeptical of an ongoing lockdown as an effective way to manage the coronavirus pandemic. This is a non-partisan, non-racist, multidisciplinary, global sub. Propagating conspiracy theories is strictly against this sub’s rules.
