Down goes the liquor commissioner barrier

Oak Park Chronicles

Don Harmon to the rescue.

With amendment to existing law:

1934 Liquor Control Act established that suburban mayors or presidents would also serve as local liquor control commissioner, and to avoid conflicts of interest they could not hold liquor licenses in the communities that elected them.

The General Assembly amended the law last year to exempt communities of 50,000 or less and provide for delegation of liquor commissioner duties to another official in such cases. With Oak Park’s current populationat about 52,000, the Harmon amendment would slightly increase the exemption so it would apply to communities of 55,000 or less.

Doing so would allow Abu-Taleb to keep his liquor license for Maya del Sol and direct the other members of the Village Board to appoint a replacement liquor commissioner.

The amendment passed the senate 47-3 April 18, will go to the House in “a couple weeks,” reports Patch.

Bill Cameron 4/22/13

WLS Sunday 4/21/13, 7 a.m., newsman Bill Cameron with Eric, Lynn, Greg, Ray. Old hands all. On coverage of anti-gunners being sparse bec. of “liberal bias” mentioned by Bill C, Lynn Sweet says “newsworthy” anti-gunners get coverage.

Oh Lynn, the captive of newsworthiness — as determined by whom? Her and other staunch liberals. Poor thing.

She speaks From the Cocoon, driven by events, it’s not her fault.

As for immigration “reform,” Cameron refers to Mayor E’s (in)famous not letting crisis go to waste, asks, so we can expect anti-reformers to make hay of the Marathon Murders done by immigrants? Ah yes, he means as Sandy Hook was not wasted by gun controllers?

Nonetheless, Cameron on Sundays is a good choice. He brings things up, does a bit of eye-poking to the likes of Sweet, who rarely has that happen.

Words of everyday wisdom

“When we prefer to gossip, gossip about others, criticize others- these are everyday things that happen to everyone, including me – these are the temptations of the evil one who does not want the Spirit to come to us and bring about peace and meekness in the Christian community”.

“These struggles always exist” in the parish, in the family, in the neighborhood, among friends”. Instead through the Spirit we are born into a new life, he makes us “meek, charitable.”

Another Benghazi report from Fox

It’s why the left hates it so and White house seeks to neutralize it.

CIA ops told to stand down, not help besieged consulate a mile away, did it anyhow, saved people.

Repeated requests for gunship backup on already lasered mortar shelling target denied.

Denials all around now by CIA: “We can say with confidence . . . ” etc.

Anan on how Oak Park is “a Middle Eastern democracy”

Oak Park Chronicles

In Anna Lothson’s very interesting post-election interview:

“We are not doing our trustees justice by not making them campaign and earn their vote. To me it’s the underlying issue of what is wrong with our town,” Abu-Taleb said. “One of my goals is to end this madness of having elections that are unopposed. … This is a Middle Eastern democracy as far as I’m concerned. I’ve lived in the Middle East and I don’t like it. I don’t like their kind of democracy. People need to step up.”
